The Setai Miami Beach Luxury Hotel

My Top 5 Favorite Hotels Of 2017

The more I travel the higher my standards become. This is applicable to airlines, restaurants, spas and mostly hotels. Someone once said: "I'll only stay at a hotel that's nicer than my home". I couldn't agree more with this statement! Why would I travel somewhere to stay in a place that doesn't offer more than the comforts available in my own home. There are only a few hotels that stood out this past year that made it to my top 5 favorite hotels of 2017 list. These hotels were unique, luxurious, offered outstanding service and were as nice or nicer than our current accommodations.

No. 5: The Setai, Miami

This sexy Miami Beach oceanfront hotel is worth a visit. The Setai's Art Deco suites are stylish, contemporary with a minimalist decor. There are three infinity pools all set at different temperatures to suite those looking for a brisk dip or those like me who would prefer warmer waters. The beach is a few steps away from the hotel and just like at the pool, you can enjoy day-beds and drinks without having to move. I love Miami and would recommend this hotel if visiting South Beach!

No. 4: Hoshinoya, Tokyo

If you are looking for a unique experience look no further! This ryokan, a traditional Japanese hotel that originated in the Edo period, is a five-star hotel located in the city’s financial district.  It is built on the theme of “an alternative Japan”. A few things set the Hoshinoya apart from any of the hotels we've ever stayed in. Guests must remove their shoes upon entering the hotel, there is a hot spring (onsen) located on the top floor, the rooms have a traditional minimalist design and guests are provided with a casual kimono to wear in the hotel. No. 3: Kempinski Ishtar, Jordan

The Kempinski Hotel Ishtar is a five-star hotel with direct access to the Dead Sea; the lowest point on earth. We booked a suite in the Ishtar resort area instead of the main building since it is much closer to the Dead Sea and pool areas. The Ishtar Terrace Room offers amazing views of the Dead Sea with a short walk to the 9 available pools, two of which are semi-private and private. The rooms are spacious, the service is fantastic and there is food to satisfy all tastes. For more on The Kempinski Ishtar and Jordan click here.

No. 2: Hôtel Plaza Athénée, Paris

It isn’t very often that a hotel truly captures the essence of a city. When I think of Paris a few words come to mind; beautiful, fashionable, memorable, fun, sophisticated, artistic and historic. These words also describe Hôtel Plaza Athénée. If Paris was a hotel it would be the Hôtel Plaza Athénée. This historic establishment is located on Avenue Montaigne in one of the most prestigious neighbourhoods in Paris. It boasts an award-winning spa, a three Michelin starred restaurant and beautifully decorated suites fit for a discerning traveller. No. 1: Amanzoe, Greece

The Peloponnese, land of myths and legends, is also home to a resort fit for the gods. Which makes sense since according to ancient Greek mythology the Peloponnese is where the gods walked the earth. Amanzoe derives from the Sanskrit word for peace, aman, and the Greek word for life, zoe. That is exactly what you get in this magical place; a life of peace. It is situated on a hilltop surrounded by olive groves and the deep blue Aegean Sea. This luxury five-star resort is perfection! The rooms, also know as Pavilions, are 2200 square feet which is larger than most city apartments. Our premium view pavilion had a 6m long private pool.
