London Weekend City Break

London is one of my favorite cities; you’ll find amazing restaurants, great shopping, and it’s easy on the eyes. Because it is such a short flight from Dublin we try to visit as often as possible. This time we spent less than 36 hours in this fabulous city but managed to make the most of it!

Stay at The London Marriott Hotel Park Lane

When you have so little time it is important to pick a hotel that is well situated. The London Marriott Hotel Park Lane in Mayfair is only a short walk to some of the main shopping areas, restaurants and much more. We dropped our luggage off and headed straight for lunch!

Grand Deluxe, Larger Guest room, 1 King

Lunch at Roka Mayfair

Roka Mayfair, just a 6-minute walk from the London Marriott Hotel Park Lane, is one of our favorite sushi restaurants in London.

Sashimi ROKA Mayfair
Tai no miso-yaki - Sea bream fillet, ryotei miso and red onion
Assortment of Sushi
Uniku to shishito yaki - Spicy beef and shishito pepper skewers

Afternoon Theater - The Book of Mormon

After feasting on a fabulous meal, we hopped in a cab and headed to the Prince of Wales Theater for an afternoon show. The Book of Mormon, winner of 9 Tony Awards including best musical, is an absolute must see! It’s hilarious!

Post Theater Shopping in Mayfair

We had a few hours for some shopping before heading back to our hotel to get ready for dinner. If you are looking for luxury brands you can head over to Bond Street, Mount Street and Maddox. The mainstream brands can be found on Oxford with over 300 shops to choose from in the area. South Molton street, a pedestrian street, and Regent Street have some great mid-range labels like MAJE, The Kooples, Tory Burch and much more.

Dinner at The Clove Club

This restaurant is #26 on the World’s 50 Best Restaurants list and made the top 5 on the Chieff’s Best Restaurants list. The tasting menu was one of the best I’ve had, I enjoyed every single dish on the menu. The atmosphere at The Clove Club is laid back and relaxed, very unpretentious. The Prestige wine pairing was unforgettable; the selection was incredible and exclusive. This restaurant is a must if visiting London. They are the first ever in the country to adopt a ticketing system. Reservations are paid for in advance and extras added on the night.

The Clove Club
Buttermilk Fried Chicken
Hay Smoked Trout Tartar, Jersey Royal Potato & Sansho With a Spoonful of Petrossian Caviar
Duck, Morel & Ginger Consommé and Hundred Year Old Madeira

On the following day, we decided to enjoy beautiful London and walked around before heading for lunch.

Lunch at Dinner by Heston Blumenthal

Because one Top 50 Restaurant just isn’t enough for one weekend! Listed at #36 on the World’s 50 Best Restaurants list it is worth a visit. Dinner by Heston Blumenthal is located in the Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park. The menu offers modern dishes, inspired by historic British gastronomy. You'll notice dates next to each item on the menu which represents the date in which the dish was first created. Our favorite item on the menu was the Meat Fruit which consisted of mandarin, chicken liver parfait and grilled bread. Delicious.

Dinner by Heston Blumenthal
Frumenty - Grilled octopus, spelt, smoked sea broth, pickled dulse & lovage
Meat Fruit - Mandarin, chicken liver parfait & grilled bread
Powdered Duck Breast & Fillet of Aberdeen Angus

All good things must come to an end! After our fabulous lunch, we walked around a little longer and did some shopping before heading back to our hotel to pick up our luggage. Now that’s a perfect London weekend city break! See you again in a month!
